    Two relatively new cases have been getting more Congressional attention:  Laminate Wood Flooring and Aluminum Extrusions from China.   Members of Congress are sending strong messages to Customs & Border Protection for more diligent monitoring and collection of ADD/CVD duties.   These cases are at best difficult to monitor as the sources of accurate information are illusive to the lay person and the experienced alike.  All I can say is Importer/Broker be ware and be aware.

  • Update: Import Security Filing

    Customs & Border Protection has reported they are pleased with the progress that importers have been making in compliance but timing is still an issue.   So far no one has heard of any monetary penalties being issued however, there have been some cargo delays due to late ISF Import Security Filing.  Customs & Border Protection continues to state that penalties will be issued  . . .  “We can’t keep kicking this can down the road forever”.

  • Trade Agreements: Update to GSP Generalized System of Preferences

    Many importing companies anxiously await the renewal of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and the Andean Free Trade Agreement as they pay unexpected duties on merchandise that was formerly free under these agreements.  At this time, both of these agreements remain on the back burner in Congress and are not expected to be addressed until after hurdles over the Columbia Trade Agreement are resolved.  We are forcasting at least a 2-3 month delay.  All the while Senator Sessions continues to wrangle in the Senate over GSP extension due to concerns that sleeping bags from Bangladesh will put a small sleeping bag assembly ...

  • We’ve moved!

    Global Trading Resources, Inc has officially settled into our new office space!  We moved out of our old office building into a fully remodeled space even closer to Portland International Airport.  We are only minutes away from Customs and Border Protection, Food and Drug Administration, Air Cargo Facilities and local CFS Warehouses.  We are very excited about this new space and are happy to greet visitors and show them around.

    Sandi has been dedicated to the freight forwarding and Customs brokerage industry for over 22 years.   Customer Service is her top priority.  She currently processes all of the export shipments as well as specialized services for imports (ocean and airfreight).  She also coordinates with our overseas Partners to facilitate her client’s shipping programs.

    Sarah is a licensed Customs Broker and holds a B.A. in International Business and Economics.  Sarah has been with GTRI for over 10 years and enjoys working directly with her customers to help streamline their importing process and ensure compliance. Sarah also manages the CTPAT program between U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Global Trading Resources.

    Sofia has worked in the International Trade Industry since 1988 and has highly technical knowledge in Import Security Filing and Manufacture ID procedures and specializes in shipments requiring multiple government agencies (i.e. FDA, USDA, ODOT).  Sofia is currently working toward HAZMAT certification.

    Born and raised in Portland, OR, Jay is our most recent transfer to the International Trade Industry.  Formerly with Frito Lay for 12 years as well as being a Master Florist for 25 years, Jay has completed training through the International Import/Export Institute in Import Procedures and is currently studying for his Customs Brokerage License as well as training with Sandi in Export procedures.

    Evelyn is a licensed Customs broker with more than 25 years of experience and a special focus on textile and compliance issues.  Evelyn’s a past board member and officer of the Columbia River Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association, and has served as an instructor for the association’s “Importing 101” classes.  She’s also served on several lobbying trips to Washington DC, to bring focus to our industry, and client’s, issues.

  • Import Security Filing (ISF)

    The import security filing (ISF), established by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in 2010,  is the 4th security program in an on-going battle against terrorism on goods being brought into the United States.  For all ocean inbound cargo, an ISF is required to be transmitted 24 hours prior to vessel departure at origin.  It is the responsibility of the importer that this filing be done timely and correctly.  The penalties for failure or incorrect filing can be as high as $5000 per violation.  Global Trading Resources has the software and experience to assist you with all aspects of this filing to assure ...

    In addition to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, there are over 40 agencies that may have jurisdiction over imported goods.  We have experience working with these agencies and can assist you in working through each agency's requirements and facilitate the agency's release of your goods.

  • Automated Export System Filing (AES)

    As part of our export services, we have the needed experience to file your Automated Export Declaration through the AES online portal.  It is important to note that unless this is filed timely and correctly, the carrier will not transport your shipment resulting in the turning away of your freight by the carrier.  Let's work together to ensure that does not happen!

  • Automated Clearing House (ACH) Duty Payments

    Global Trading Resources facilitates the payment of your Customs duties through our own ACH account.  Alternatively, we can help you to set up your own ACH account with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.  We also monitor the payments so they are done correctly and timely.  At this time, we are migrating customers to the Periodic Monthly Statement program.  This program is a monthly transmission of your duties and allows for better cash flow and planning.

    Do you have a client overseas?  Would you like to export your products with ease? Global Trading Resources processes all required export documentation including certificates of origin, legalization, letters of credit and bank presentation for either ocean or air freight.
