Members of Congress are sending strong messages to Customs & Border Protection for more diligent monitoring and collection of ADD/CVD duties. These cases are at best difficult to monitor as the sources of accurate information are illusive to the lay person and the experienced alike. All I can say is Importer/Broker be ware and be aware.

Many importing companies anxiously await the renewal of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and the Andean Free Trade Agreement as they pay unexpected duties on merchandise that was formerly free under these agreements. At this time, both of these agreements remain on the back burner in Congress and are not expected to be addressed until after hurdles over the Columbia Trade Agreement are resolved. We are forcasting at least a 2-3 month delay. All the while Senator Sessions continues to wrangle in the Senate over GSP extension due to concerns that sleeping bags from Bangladesh will put a small sleeping bag assembly company in his state out of business.
